It’s Time!

Remember when I said there would be Changes Coming….?

Well, It’s time!

Over the next couple of weeks the site is going to get an overhaul. A big one.

I’ve removed the shop and practice test links from the menu, because, well, they were outdated garbage. I’ll add them back eventually, once I figure out exactly what to do with them and how to do them properly. You should still be able to access the Safety Course and Practice Tests, if you can’t please let me know. I expect a few things to break along the way and that’s ok. I’ll fix it.

But from here on out, the focus on the site is this:

Amateur Radio for Smart People

OK, so what does that mean?

It means I’m not focusing on “how to pass the tests” any more. I’m sure I’ll catch a whole lot of flak for it, but that’s crap. As a reasonably smart person, with a Physics(ish) degree, an Amateur Extra license, and a love for the science and technology behind amateur radio, I felt like something needed to change.

Going forward, I’m going to focus more on topics like this:

  • Amateur Radio History
  • History of Physics and Science (rel. to Amateur Radio)
  • Amateur Radio Technology
  • Experimentation and Demonstration
  • SKILLS. SKILLS SKILLS SKILLS

Look, I’m no expert. I might have a degree, an AE license, and a few years of basically dabbling in radio, but I will freely admit I have a lot to learn. A LOT. I mean, laugh, point, and sneer if you want, but I don’t even know the holy “code.” I don’t even have what I’d call a decent station put together at the moment (moving will do that!)

I look around and I don’t see a whole lot (but it is out there) of people actually showing the why’s and how’s of radio. Fundamental stuff.

How does it work? What do the parts of a radio do? What does that thing do? What do you mean I can just build that? What’s a vacuum tube exactly? How does it work? What does it do? What does that transistor do that a tube can’t? How does electricity become radio and vice versa. Etc, etc, etc.

So, with that in mind, if there’s anything in particular you’d like to learn more about, feel free to let me know. Comment here, use the contact form, drop me an e-mail, etc.

Do I have a clear picture of what this is going to look like? Not exactly. But I have a better idea than I did a month ago.

I’ve got a couple articles “in the pipe” ready to go out next week, which should give you an idea where its going.

I’d better get back to it, before I lose the plot again!! Stay tuned and let’s hear your comments!
